Word Environment Day: 5 Practical Changes We Can Effect

word environment dayOk, so we have been hearing all the ravings & rantings about how should be done about the Planet Earth from growing old gracefully. We live in a comfort-ridden society where we all have become slaves to leading a comfortable and luxurious life, which renders the planet earth sick as hell. Because of our addiction to comfort and technology, we can hardly resist the temptation of doing things that have clearly organic alternative. It’s only getting worse and there seems to be no light in the horizon. However, the good news is our little contribution on a daily basis can help our planet lead a healthier life which in turn would help the mankind survive.

Here are five things we can do daily to bring about a change:

Plant A Tree: Planting a tree goes much beyond persevering the planet earth; it’s a beautiful feeling altogether. It takes no time in planting a tree in a small clay pot and watering it daily. Plus, the feeling of watching it grow is second to none. Regardless of where you stay, there is enough space in your house to plant a small tree, nourish and let it grow beautifully. Have you ever planted a tree? Do it – it’s beautiful!

Discourage Polyethylene: There is a shopaholic in every one of us, right! Starting from grocery items to fast food items to cosmetics to clothes to vegetables, the vendors tend to offer us polyethylene bags or plastic bags most of which cannot be recycled and are harmful to the planet earth. While we can carry our own bags for buying veggies and groceries, we can always so NO to the vendors that offer us cosmetics, clothing and food items in polyethylene bags. Our consistent acceptance of their environmental-hostile practices could spell doom for the future of our planet. Let’s start saying NO from today! This will encourage them to come up with alternative packaging solutions.

Ride Public Transport: Some people prefer to drive their own car to work even though there is an alternative public transport available to them. Although relinquishing this habit is kind of tough at once, they still can try commuting to work using public transport at least 3 days a week. For travelling small distances, you can prefer to walk as it contributes to both your health and to the health of planet earth as well. Having a car doesn’t make one cool, the ability to use it responsibly does!

Save Water: Let’s preserve water whenever possible and encourage our family members for doing the same. For example, using water judiciously during bathing, washing dishes and doing laundry can go a long way in saving water. You can remind your near and dear ones to preserve water whenever you can until it becomes their second nature. It’s possible.

Less Paper: Let’s not use paper wherever an alternative solution is available. For example, we could switch to electronic billing system for paying our utility bills.
