Sachin Tendulkar in 2010: The Master Blaster Rules The Sports Universe

Sachin Tendulkar on Time Magazine, 2010, Top Ten Sports Moments

I’m feeling so freaking proud to be writing this post as an honest tribute to a person whose feat has been immortalized in the Time Magazine as “Top Ten Sports Moments” of the year 2010. Yes, he is Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, the living legend in the world of cricket, and one of the most venerated sportspersons the world has ever seen.

Yes, you’re reading it damn right! The Iconic Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar’s record-breaking one-day International double century has found a place in Time magazine’s ‘Top 10 Sports Moments’ of the year.

I must take this opportunity to tell all my US readers that Cricket to Indians is what Baseball to Americans. If expressed in the baseball jargon, Sachin is a player who has hit the home run million times and set, overcome and shattered many established records so many times that the world of cricket has put him on the top of the list of honorable cricketers of all time. Sir Don Bradman (the legendary cricketer from Australia) has imagined Sachin as a reflection of his sporting talent and cricket fantasy. Exaggeration be damned, many extremely popular sports from across the globe still consider him as “lesser mortal” when they fail to deconstruct his phenomenal yet mystic genius.

Here is what Time says while acknowledging his historic feat as one of the momentous events in the world of sports in 2010.

Certain sports milestones seem simply unreachable: In cricket, it’s the one-day double-hundred: no man had ever produced 200 runs for his team during a one-day international match. In February, however, India’s Sachin Tendulkar, the greatest run scorer of all-time, hit the magic milestone against a powerful South African squad. Tendulkar smacked three ‘sixes’ – the cricket equivalent of a home run — during his epic performance, and the build up to 200 was exhilarating. When he reached 199, the home crowd in Gwalior waved Indian flags, and roared, knowing they were about to witness history. The diminutive Tendulkar, dubbed ‘The Little Master,’ slapped a single past the South African fielders. The world’s 1.5 billion cricket fans had a moment they’d never forget.

Time magazine paid a fitting tribute to Sachin when his earth-shattering knock of 200 runs brought the cricketing world to a standstill and approve his genius yet again. Here is the article for you to read and revel in the pride of sporting spirit.

To me and many world citizens, Sachin has remained a source of inspiration for many decades now. True fans of this wonderful person have never given up on his ability to create wonders and move mountains in the face of insuperable challenges. Whenever the skeptics have raised their eyebrows on his occasional mortal failings, he has bounced back and humbled them with his relentless willow-talk. To the fans who truly know him, he has remained a humble, reticent and committed sportsperson who scores every run not merely for his personal record, but to feed his virtually insatiable hunger and help his team inch towards a deserving victory. I’m sure everyone would agree with this.

His Genius Needs No Validation. It is just a Matter of “Time” for The World to Recognize It. He’s Done Us Proud “Time” & Again!!!
